The Gorgeous Grenadines

We spent the first few weeks of November exploring the beautiful Grenadine islands; the clear blue waters, white sandy beaches and sea life are surely among the most beautiful in the eastern Carribbean, and in our opinion, are rivaled only by the Bahamas.

There are 32 islands and cays in the Grenadines, and only 9 are inhabited. The northern two thirds of the islands are part of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, while the southern third of the Grenadines are part of Grenada. The Grenadines islands for the most part are small, uncrowded and unspoiled with commercialism.

After a night of rest and then clearing into customs following our sail down from the BVI, on May 19, we headed ashore to explore Bequia's picture-book perfect town, Port Elizabeth. Bequia is the second largest island in the Grenadines (only smaller to the main island of St. Vincent).

A week into our time exploring the British Virgin Islands, we saw a great multi-day weather window open, which is what inspired our blitz through the BVIs.

We initially planned to hop to the next island in the chain, St. Maarten, some 80 nm southeast of the BVIs, but the day before we planned to leave, we made a somewhat last minute decision to head offshore directly to St. Vincent and the Grenadines rather than island hop our way south.
